More on Charles Widmore:
Since the early 90's Charles Widmore has contributed notably to hip-hop culture – from graffiti to break-dance. Through the latter, Widmore was first exposed to electronic music, culminating with the establishment in 2008 of his label Perplex Recordings. Inspired by the hip-hop movie "Wild Style," Widmore embraced spray-can art, subsequently forging a reputation as a impressive graf artist. In 1998, Viva TV recognized Charles Widmores talents in the renowned Aerosol Art Battle, launching a career in Communication Design work which endured for many years, finessing and developing his uniquely individual creative aesthetic.
In the mid-90's Charles Widmore first discovered the muscular, loop-based, dance-floor electronics of Josh Wink, Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald and Daniel Bell. Impressed and immediately fascinated by both these sounds and by Berlins unique club-culture, (including legendary clubs such as Planet, E-Werk, Ostgut, WMF and Bunker), Widmores involvement in the scene increasingly deepened. Radio programs including André Langenfeld on DT64, the X-mix series of K7!, unique DJ-sets of Tanith, Wolle XDP and Ellen Allien as well as Steve Mason on BFBS London, fueled this passion. Widmore was one of a new generation of DJs and ravers changed uniquely by this formative time.
Through cutting-edge and counter-cultural influences, Charles Widmore has grown musically astute and now is the creative pace-maker and leader of Perplex Recordings, a refreshing young Berlin vinyl label providing a dynamic platform for forward-thinking, deep and thoughtful contemporary house and techno music.
