The World Cup is almost upon us and the anticipation in the air is almost palpable as Berlin gears up for this international event. Are you though, feeling a little underwhelmed over 'World Cup fevour'? Perhaps your significant other, like mine, has been anticipating the World Cup for at least six months and you're now totally bored by all of the football chat? Maybe you're secretly dreading the World Cup and the grip it will grab on your whole Summer social life. Fear not! Berlin will provide. Below is the definitive list of how to spend your Summer, World Cup aside ...
1)Carnival of Cultures (Karneval der Kulturen) - 21-24 May (street carnival 23 May), set in the district of Kreuzberg, about a million people attend this exciting street fair, parade and party.
2) Berlin Summer Rave - 12/06/2010 - Tempelhof Airport
3) DMY International Design Festival 9-13 June 2010
4) English Comedy Weekend, Sat, Jun 26, 2010 to Sat, Jun 26, 2010 - Die Wuhumause, 2 Pommernallee, 14052 Berlin
5) Yoga Festival 2010 at Cultural Park Kladow 2- 4 July
6) Berlin Love Parade - 24 July 2010 - this year taking place in Duisburg, get to Duisburg's main station and it's all taking place around the 'Duisburg Freedom.' Or if you want something a little closer to home how about Melt Festival 17, 18 and 19 of July whose line up has got me positively salivating!
7) Beer Festival - early August, held at Strasberger Platz, with 200 different breweries representing over 75 countries and more than 1,500 different types of beer!
8) Late Night at the Museums (Lange Nacht der Museen) - late August, over 90 museums stay open until midnight (or later), with many concerts, lectures and parties.
9) Open air concerts at the Botanical Gardens run from May to September at Botanic Garden, Queen Luise-Strasse 6-8, 14195 Berlin
10) If that lots doesn't keep you busy there's always Karaoke at the Bear Pit in Mauer Park on Sundays, lake hopping, barbecue, tish tennis and badeschiff !
