After a slightly disappointing start to MBFWB, especially at its main location at Bebelplatz I am glad to inform you that there is hope. A magnificent hope in fact, impersonated by a brand new duo based in Berlin and called Perret Schaad; or rather Tutia Schaad and Johanna Perret.
Despite graduating just recently, the girls already have a massive repertoire. I haven't been impressed for such a long time in the flesh – and I really needed it, I was hungry for it. It was with great pleasure that I observed their show which was skilled with a sharpness of the senses that reminded me why I'm so passionate about fashion in the first place. This collection was sophisticated, thoughtful and above all, complete.
Saying that, they didn't reinvented the wheel guys, but they did do something really important that makes them stand out. In my eyes, they accomplished something few succeed in doing: a way to unite commercialism with real creativity. Their vision was very clear, the details well-chosen and puristic.
A conspicuous main-element were set by flaps, either fixed or free waving. They appeared in different variations like at side seams of silk trouser, mainly in a riding breech form, and further on applied on half-sheer blouses. In addition to that they played with spotted drapes or layering. Simple and with a telling effect. Thereby, they were able to play with silhouettes without distracting the general view, which once again proves the claim: less is more.
Hairy woolen cardigans and coats in a basic grey underlined a sophisticated look. Warm earth and mustard tones helped their purist, natural theme.
I would be pleased to be able to see the Perret Schaad show/collection this summer but most of all I hope the girls can keep up this individual style – no matter what the industry says.
