Lala Berlin were the first label to kick off the Michalsky StyleNite and they did not dissappoint. Through its new Autumn / Winter 2010/2011 collection Lala Berlin is calling for more rebellion and re-orientation. The collection, named "Live The Revolution" embodied an independence, avant-garde spirit and a strong self-confidence – essential properties for rebellion!
Leyla Piedayesh presented her exclusive prêt-à-poter line called "Atelier Lala Berlin By Piedayesh Leyla". Beautifully joined with a coherent unit of her ready-to-wear line, the designer followed again her typical winning handwriting, and came up with a pure general outlook.
The outfits sent the viewer on an excursion, into a rough and fictional epoch. Revolutionariy parkas, bomber jackets, delicate titanium, copper fabrics and bulky knit sweaters looked very protective. High-quality silk and Wool-georgette yarns, cotton silk and silk velvet managed a touch of meekness and feminine elegance.
In contrast to the 'clean and pure' style, some of the pieces were decorated with insects such as beetles and spiders made of beadwork; these sort of gothic, rocky references are also typical of the label, which can do 'dark' just as beautifully as it does 'light'. To set a highlight to the main colors black and "Weimaraners" grey, Leyla introduced a beautiful amber tone. Thus, the entire collection felt very warm and almost surreal. It definitely came across as very well thought-out and highly sophisticated. Unlike some other unflattering noises being made by certain press, I liked the fact that with this new line Leyla attempt something new and more exeptional. This is an attitude that Germans often fear, because everything new is alien. They are not risk-takers. I applaud Leyla for not playing it safe - the only criticism from me would be the collection could have been edited down better - a designer as talented as Leyla doenst need to show people absolutely everything she has produced - they will come regardless and see it all for themselves.
