When I first started brushing shoulders in the London club scene and up until I left London, Hannah Holland was the soundtrack to my nights out, pumping out the heaviest bass and best music I have ever heard in my life, from Trailer Trash to Bugged Out, Hannah has kept sweaty bodies gagging for more for a long time, Her club Batty Bass [which by the way is actually my all time favorite club In london and it’s no secret, anyone who has met me has been force fed Batty Bass Radio on iTunes and never looked back.] with all artwork by legend Alex Noble and live vocals from Mama Shamone the Batty Bass team will be showing Berlin a new sound to party to on the 5th of March at Chez Jacki for the launch of their album “Batty Bass Presents - The Return To Planet Batty - Rise Of The Artists” which is an amalgamation of songs from artists on the Batty Bass record label, with sets from musical icon DJ Hell, Hannah Holland herself, live sets from Mama Shamone and much, much, much more, so here to tell you about the night and other Batty news is Hannah Holland herself, the Queen of bass.
Hello Hannah, For anyone who hasn't heard about Bastard Batty Bass, could you tell us a little bit more about the night, how long it's been going on for and the influences behind the night?
Batty Bass has been going for 4 and a half years now!!! It celebrates the chaotic mess of influences formed from the love of deep, dark techno to jungle, dubstep, garage, acid the wonkier side of electro and the very first bleeps of house music with an added energy force of Mama [Mama Shamone] on the mic. It's Berlin groove meets London bass with a touch of Grace Jones on top!
Batty bass has it's own unique sound like no other, have you found it hard to establish that sound and maintain it and are you nervous about bringing it overseas?
I’ve always had a very bass driven dirty sound to my sets, Batty Bass is an extension of that , over the years we have crafted the formula, the woven web of rhythm, bass and live vocals. We always work from the heart , and when you do that people really feel it...we are so excited to bring it to new places, share the fun and express our roots!
You have the batty bass CD coming out which is a collection of artists off the batty bass label, firstly can you tell me more about the label and where it's heading?
The label started 2 years ago, as a natural progression, myself and Mama were starting to make our own beats we wanted a platform to deliver our own unique flavour . The album is a collection of years of finding the most exciting underground artists performers that encapsulate the creative musical cross pollination that we are all about, it's a very London characteristic, a melting pot of sounds and culture. Its not a promotion of a DJ set, we are presenting these exciting new acts!
Where are you able to get the Batty Bass CD from?
The album... “Batty Bass Presents - The Return To Planet Batty - Rise Of The Artists” is available to buy from Urban Outfitters and online, you can buy all the tracks as singles from itunes beatport etc!
We'll be selling them on the night too, with a discount on the door!
What have you got in store for everyone who attends the party?
Expect the Batty Bass blend of all things bass and groove...London meeting Berlin! DJ sets from myself, the Batty Bass extended family Deboa and Keaton and Mama doing her solo live show. We have special guests Pilocka Krach, who first caught our attention in Bar 25. She's a punky electro badass MPC queen who we are pleased to have in the Batty Bass family, her track "Fuck" is on the album! and to top it off the legendary DJ Hell has come to join us, after being blown away by the album he is a fully fledged Batty Bass supporter, he's ganna come a cause a storm with us...taking us through some house and acid!...this guy is a true expert and we're super excited to have him involved.
Will the club night in Berlin be just a one off? or will you be finding batty bass a second home in Berlin?
We hope to keep coming back, we're looking forward to bring people something totally new straight from London town via Berlin, which is our favorite party city and we cant wait!!
I personally can’t wait for Batty Bass in Berlin, it’s one of the main things I miss about London and I am already planning my outfit! Thank you Hannah and I look forward to seeing you there!
