One of London's most sought after parties which definitely lives up to its name by way of sheer fresh out-of-the-oven of good ideas, Half Baked, will be served up this Saturday in its usual non-conventional style for the very first time in Berlin.  As always with the other Half Baked parties, the venue promises to be a raw diamond which helps to frame the wicked DJ line up and atmosphere that has even the coolest east Londoner dancing along (no kidding!?).

Not only are you offered to have your tastes catered to in only a way that the likes of musical chef Shaun Reeves (Wolf + Lamb) can cook up (with plenty more where that came from!), with an offering of a chance to get in for a measily fiver, you'd be a bit errr half baked yourself not to show up.

Before the party kicks off on Saturday, I collared Half Baked's head baker, Bruno, to get the lowdown on just why he thinks Berlin is ready to be Half Baked.

BBB:  First things first, tell us all about 'Half Baked?'.
HALF BAKED: We (Bruno and Remi) wanted to create an intimate party with excellent upbeat music and a really special vibe. We wanted to do it in a different sort of venue to the large clubs in London but that still represented the East London that this party scene recognises and loves.  It’s a bunch of cool, friendly people kicking back and cutting some shapes in unique locations like our winter venue which is situated under the arches of an old railway bridge and our summer location which is an open air, sunken car park, both in the heart of Shoreditch. And of course we’ve added some quirky touches to both of these places!

BBB:  What's with the name?!
HB: The name “’Half Baked’ sort of materialised. We explained the concept to our friends who are veterans of East London parties and after chucking around many names of similar meaning Half Baked was mentioned and instantly fit. It’s fun but to the point…like the event!

BBB:  How long have you been blowing east side London's socks off with your parties?
HB: Well, you could say people’s socks are blown off by our mega loud sound system! But if you want to know when Half Baked began…. We’ve worked and partied in this scene for years and always had our own ideas. We held our first event in November 2009. The first few over the winter were mainly supported (and frequented!) by our nearest and dearest. With the help of some good people, excellent resident djs doing their thing and some hard work on everyone’s part we started to attract in some quality DJs. As good vibes spread and attracted more good vibes, word spread and in April this year Half Baked kind of exploded. We had to close the doors to the venue half way through the day! Seeing people enjoying it so much is a great motivator which makes us try harder to do better and better for our followers for each event. We also try to not tread on the toes of other known promoter’s… East London is pretty small after all. This mutual respect has also helped to an extent with the success of Half Baked. Half Baked is like no other as a result of the attitude of the people involved.  Starting with the organisers to DJs to security to bar staff. Everyone is positive, friendly and enjoying themselves and this permeates through to the guests that come along. You can’t help but feel uplifted when you’re listening to upbeat tunes surrounded by happy people all dancing and laughing together. We do run a strict door policy which is taken care of by extremely experienced professionals who understand completely what half Baked is all about  –they make sure the cool vibes are not ruined by party poopers.

BBB: What are your intentions with bringing the Half Baked idea to Berlin?
HB: Our Berlin debut is incredibly exciting for all involved. Berlin is at the heart of this type of party so there is a lot of pressure to impress. We haven’t really allowed a lot of preparation time (out of circumstance – it was all a bit last minute).  We visited Berlin and fell in love with it so wanted to give this event a go.

BBB:  With art parties as frequent as bike tire punctures here in the city, what makes Half Baked like no other party?
HB: We’re just going to come along with our hearts open and our party hats on. Hopefully this will be the first of many Half Baked expeditions and the beautiful Berlin masses will embrace Half Baked just as the beautiful Londoners have.  Then who knows where to next…

BBB: Who would you like to come down for a a boogey and what can they expect when they walk through the door?
HB: As for who we would really like to see on the dance floor at Half Baked… just as we always say…. Beautiful, happy people sharing good times at a great party!
