Brace yourselves for something fresh and exhilarating to thunder its way into Berghain this weekend. Not quite like anything that has yet to occur within bh's towering walls on a Friday night, ≠ (not equal) is a bold new audio adventure that will take over the international headquarters of electronic supremacy to blast Berliners with huge, earth-shaking bass frequencies and pitch black reverberations that are definitely not for the faint of heart.
The menu includes lives sets from an array of acts from the UK and the US, including experimental duo Demdike Stare, Emptyset, Tropic of Cancer and Andy Stott - aptly described as a man "blessed with an ear for space and a knack for constructing tracks that are simultaneously smooth and rumbling". There will also be DJ sets from Milton Bradely, Raime and Opium Hum to appease the metricially-strung hearts of beat matching junkies.
Pitched by organisers as a new event series that "aims to situate the relationship between sound research, production and narration and contemporary dance music", the first ≠ (not equal) party this Friday will be an exciting synthesis of live ambient techno, experimental post-punk, evocative visuals, media art installations and rhythmically technical industrial soundscapes. Detonate the clip below for a little taste of the elegant explosion of brooding creativity that awaits you.
