Somewhere on the mantelpiece of a cosy Berlin living room, an advent candle burns brightly. Somewhere amongst the tethers of your lustful party-loving heart, the desire to dance burns a little more fiercely. While a mythical Santa Claus packs an imaginary bag of presents, a real-life DJ packs a real-life record bag full of weekend delights (or stocks up a PC hard drive with pleasure-inducing MP3s). While busy, festively prone citizens write up and mark off ‘to-do’ and ‘to-buy’ lists, you excitedly draw up a tasty weekend wish-list of your own. That old, orbiting time of brightly clashing colours, mass-feasting and lots of family time draws ever so near once again, and as the snow refrains from falling and continues to deny the Berlin streets of its symbolic whiteness, the parties continue to flow in lush, carefree abundance.
Homopatik is back once again tonight. Once a month, every month on a Friday night About Blank transforms into a charming circus of freaks, geeks and the so-called cream of the party crop - gallivanting impertinently (dancing) for almost 24 hours around the Friedrichshain location to the finely tuned sounds of Mr. Ties and co. Tonight’s theme of Mangapatik seems like an extra good reason to get extra animated.
Piloted by Marco Resmann, Marcus Meinhardt and Hawks Grunert, Upon You is one of the leading local house and techno labels in Berlin. They’re involved in just about every party enterprise around town throughout the year, including everything from Hoppetosse shindigs to Panorama Bar sessions, and tonight they take control of Watergate for a label showcase at the Upon You Label Night.
Soundcloud is one of the most prominent and user-friendly online audio distribution platforms of today, allowing easy collaboration and promotion of music with high quality audio files (designed by the Swedes, of course). Tonight the company hosts the Soundcloud 2011 Christmas Party featuring Poker Flat’s Daniel Dexter and Alland Byallo. Taking place at Prince Charles, the party is free for public entrance from 1am onwards (no cover charge!) or for a chance to win one of 200 special guestlist places that will get you in with the ‘in’ crowd from 11.30pm – 1am, follow this cyber trail all the way to the height of your coolness.
More X-mas naughtiness tomorrow night in the heart of the hipsters' latest gentrification playground, Neukölln (sorry, but everyone knows that Wedding just ain't there yet). The Sameheads Mizzil Toe Xmas Party is a festive bash for the young, the restless, the eff’d up and the best dressed, and will also be the last party at the über-trendy half-underground clubby basement bar until Jan 16.
And in direct contradiction with the above (got to love that!) one of the most active venues in innovative party action of the past season has been Stattbad Wedding. This weekend over Saturday and Sunday, they host Stattmarkt – an art market in the bath, from 2pm - 10pm each day. The former Wedding swimming pool will house an appealing array of fashion, art, literature and other useful knick-knacks to help you in the battle against boredom and being dull. Grab a copy of a cult classic novel, arm yourself with a fashionable quote and a chic new outfit, and bop your way through the rest of the weekend in style. You could even pop into the charity party at the same venue later in the night for a fill of guilt-free music and dancing.
