Berlin is a cyclist’s paradise – wide cycle lanes, plenty of locking and parking facilities, and some great routes to ride – so it only makes sense that it hosts some of the best bikes shops of any European capital. Here are some of BANG BANG BERLIN’s favourites. Just make sure you lock your bike up properly though (never just leave it out on the street overnight) - there are as many bike thieves here as there are bike lovers.

1. Best for Fixed-Fear: Keirin Cycle Café Culture, Kreuzberg
Fixed is booming in Berlin and the Keirin Cycle Café near Schlesisches Tor offers everything a dedicated rider could want – second-hand track frames, wheelbuilding, service, retro jerseys and decent coffee too.

2. Best for Retro Racing Style: Cicli Berlinetta, Prenzlauer Berg
Cicli Berlinetta recently moved from Fehrberliner Strasse to Schönfließtrasse and expanded on the way. The huge new showroom is packed full of retro race frames, wheels, clothing and componenets, while their own off-the-peg branded pista track bikes are highly desirable. A real destination for Berliner tifosi.

3. Best for Relaxed Riding:
Zweitrad Hollandräder, Mitte
Specialising in upright Dutch machines – perfect for commuting or relaxed weekend rides along the Spree - Mite’s Zweitrad offers bikes by Gazelle, Batavus, Velorbis and the attraxtive Brit brand Pashley. They’re big on coloured bikes too, and Berlin needs a bit of that, let’s face it. Service, componentry and accessories too, along with friendly service.

4. Best Ror Road Racers: Radsport Heinze, Neukölln
Off the beaten track (but you’ll probably want to ride there in any case), Radsport Heinze is the destination for those lycra-clad Berlin rouleurs you see see carving up the roads around the Grünewald at weekends. Stocks high-end frames, wheels, builds (including Colnago) and much more. Worth a ride to find out more.

5. Best for Showroom Experience: Villa Pasculli, Schöneberg
Of course, there more to the rejuvenated (and relaunched by Berliners) Italian brand Pasculli – a great range of handbuilt cross, road, TT, track and MTB frames – than the showroom, but what a place it is: a huge, airy atrium and former converted performance spae where the Ramones once played. Pasculli also stock the fanciable Rapha apparel range along with other natty cycling nice-to-haves.

6. Best for BMXers: Titus Zoopreme
Titus are a huge chain of skate and bike stores with stores all over Germany. Popular with girls and boys who are addicted to skate parks. In Berlin they have two stores, one in MItte and one in the West. They sometimes sell Cruisers, but mainly Titus are known for their BMX bikes - they have their own brand plus they sell KHE.
