*LOGOS - LOVOS*
GRUZIS AIDS-3D DUNCAN MALASHOCK
Duve has come to my attention a lot recently, but my eyes popped out of my head when I saw AIDS 3D as part of the gallery weekend line up. It looks like they are putting on a group show with Evan Gruzis , AIDS-3D and Duncan Malashock. Not too familiar with the work of the other two but I’m a big fan of AIDS-3D. For those of you who aren’t too familiar, AIDS-3D is a Berlin-based collective whose work touches on both technological utopianism and digital kitsch. Their installations, performances, and Internet-based work use these themes to flippantly engage with the unmet promises of the twentieth century: religious enlightenment, sexual liberation, artistic freedom, and human progress through technological advancement. (Ok I directly copied that from the press release but this is a busy weekend) Everyone is coming to town but lm suggesting we stay sort of local as a first stop) In more ways than one. I think the comparison of some of these megastar artists work from a previous generation in comparison with the more recent, and perhaps a little edgier work, of the new generation of artists, can be quite telling of a state of the art world and the different spectrums operating within it. These guys are funny, acute, relevant, provocative and entertaining, see what you think. *LOGOS - LOVOS* is the work of a group of young artists born at the height of American consumer-culture hegemony, who grew up with the promises of infinite potential of knowledge and control which defined that era. Pairing technique and technology with a wry and media-savvy visual repertoire.
