Hey readers, today I have a treat for you, I came aross this photographer recently, Chilean born Magnus Pettersson currently living in Berlin. He likes to shoot portraits, most of these chosen for BANGBANGBERLIN were taken in his Berlin studio, where he says, 'the light is just perfect.' This set of portraits are of various people that have crossed paths with Magnus Pettersson for personal and professional reasons, including; model, actress, photographer, room mate, artist, band member and himself.  Every week he takes a new one of himself, but never does anything with them. The self portrait chosen for this series is inspired by an old photo of Jonny Carson for Vanity Fair,.

I really like this set of photographs beause they tell a story as they leap from one character to the next.  Despite the range of characters on show, Pettersson always manages to communicate something that is uniquely his own. As Oscar Wilde so eloquently once said, 'Every portrait that is painted with feeling, is a portait of the artist, and not of the sitter.' These photographs are of people, young and fresh, in their bloom -  a representation of the over-whelming majority of Berlin society.

Pettersson has been shooting since he got his first camera, a Nikon F70, when he was 14 years old wich he still uses. Since 2004, Magnus worked in Stockholm and has also been working as photo assistant for photographers Martin Adolfsson and Vincent Skoglund. He currently lives in Berlin and works mostly for European Magazines.
He does most of his work analogue using a Mamiya RZ 67, Nikon f70 and a Contax 137 MA Quartz and 35,50,85mm lenses. Or sometimes shoots digital, using Canon 5d + 5d MKII.
Right now he is working on 3-4 diffrent art projects 2 of them together with, he says, 'amazing graphic designer Oriol Salles.' He will show in a group exhibition in Neukölln in December (which I shall post about for you later.)

Do you know of a photographer who you admire? Please send them our details. We are always searching for new, fresh talent to platfrom here at BANGBANGBERLIN.
